Keeping up to date with home décor ideas
The fashions and trends in the designs for clothes, vehicles, and even houses changes periodically. Clothing fashion is the one which changes most frequently with new season outfits which the designers have decided are going to be a big hit on the beaches of the south of France or in the Caribbean islands. Cars change their shape every few years, but seem to follow similar trends. Home décor ideas fall somewhere between these with periodic new fashion trends.
However there are always the very traditional home decor ideas, which never change. The floral patterns in the wall coverings are for ever in the huge wallpaper sample books, but new ideas do crop up, and those are largely to do with ideas in colour, lighting and fabrics. There is a far greater choice these days with the input of fabrics from across the world, so designs can be centred around Asian designs, or South American textiles. That’s a great bonus for the interior designer looking for new home décor ideas, as the stalwart traditional designs just may not fit the bill for a new client.
House style counts for a lot and there has to be consideration for the type of home being given the annual spruce up. A traditional stone cottage is what it is, and should not be changed into a modern style house found on the new development – or at least that would be the view of the professional.
But a trendy new apartment in the harbour development would be open to all types of smart and stylish designs and in the interior designers book, open to all sorts of new trends. This also applies to the smart new home in the latest upmarket housing development. There is just far more scope in this sort of place, so the use of tribal textiles and, for example, the rich colour of the Aztec Indians a few centuries ago can work really well. Colour co ordination is all important, and if not used well the home can look a bit of a ‘mish-mash’. At the other end of the scale, the house where the owners have played a little too safe and covered every wall in the house with magnolia coloured emulsion comes across as bland and uninspiring. Practical it may be, but even with a few potted plants it takes on the look of a doctors surgery.
Getting a good professional who knows about colour and trends is well worth it, if the effect you want on your home décor is something you regard as important. But remember you have to live with ith on a daily basis so impress on any home décor designer that the project is yours, not theirs.
